This is not exactly a continuation of what I wrote here yesterday as I've been working on the story on my own, outside of this blog. In fact, I've decided from tomorrow on, because I am now fully invested and involved with this project (this story), I will be writing it in my own time, outside of my blog. I miss blogging for the purpose of blogging, so expect to see some of my old blog posts starting tomorrow morning.

“You made it!” Matt exclaimed when he saw Alex approaching. Rune was asleep in his arms. Alex again got the reassurance that she needed. He’s just so kind.
Matt gave Alex her ticket and they stood in a short line on the first-class section of the airline. The three of them got their boarding passes and went straight to the gate. They rested in the lounge area until it was time to board the plane.
When they boarded the plane, Alex’s phone began calling non-stop—it was her parents and Maddy apparently. Alex did not want to bother talking to them, because she knew. She knew that they would try to persuade her to do otherwise and they would ruin her good mood or get into another fight with her on the line. So after the third call from her father, Alex turned off her phone and threw it in her purse.
And with that, she leaned on Matt and hugged his arm and closed her eyes.
When Alex opened her eyes again, she had already arrived. She wasn’t quite sure what happened in the middle. It was quite a long flight. She remembers the food vaguely and the music but she was too tired to retain any of it. By the time she woke up, the plane had landed and people were starting to get ready to leave the plane. Matt, too, was getting things together.
“Why didn’t you wake me?” Alex asked Matt, helping him in the process.
“Why should I have? I knew you were really tired. I thought…there’s still some time for her to sleep.”
“But I meant…to help you.” Alex smiled.
Matt smiled back and said: “I’m here to take care of you now…you don’t need to worry about helping me or anything. Get used to it because this is how you’re going to be treated from now on…like a princess.”
Alex blushed and leaned over to kiss Matt on the cheek. They finally opened the plane doors and one by one they got up to leave. At the airport, Matt took a cab with Alex. He didn’t want to let on too much information about his possessions just yet. They went straight to a hotel, a fancy one. Again, Matt’s place was ready and much more fancy than the hotel but Matt decided it is too early for that now. When they got to the hotel though, Matt excused himself and said he had to run some errands out. Alex asked him what she should do about Rune and he said to just let him be. He won’t want to talk much. Then he whispered something in Rune’s ears and Rune nodded back.
Out of the hotel, Matt got a cab straight to the airport to get his car. He went straight to his house after that. Matt was so happy and pleased with himself. Whatever that went on between Alex and her parents made her so much more calm and pleasing to be with. She wasn’t the same whiney girl that Matt wanted to punch sometimes. Matt shook this thought away as he typed things on to his computer. He was checking to make sure everything is in the system and wanted to print out the new invoices. He also had to authorize three buses later that day.
At times, Matt seriously considered taking her into the system and adding her to his collection. But then, he thought, he wanted her all to himself. If she goes to the system, then she could easily end up in the other side of the world in the hands of some…Matt stopped himself. He was already getting so angry even thinking of that. He realized, he really loved her, at least his own version of it. He’s wanted many girls and has had many girls, but Alex was different. When it came to Alex, he just wanted her all to himself. But it was still pretty exhausting to always pretend in front of her. In the end, he didn’t even need to switch to his Mandala even while they were on their way here or at the hotel. But still. Eventually, he had to tell her—at least part of the truth. Heck, maybe she’ll even be too dumb to go with his idea and become his sex slave for life. Matt smiled at that thought as he printed the authorization papers and got up to leave.
He was about to go when he heard some knocking in the closet. He paused for a moment before opening the closet. There, the girl he had used the last time he was there was kneeling with her hands and feet tied and duct tape on her mouth. She was crying. Matt smiled, pulled the duct tape off of the girl’s mouth suddenly, startling her and kneeled in front of her.
“Sir please…I’ve been here for…I don’t know how long. I need to drink…I’m so hungry…” the girl pleaded as fresh tears streamed down her face. Matt smiled. He went over to the kitchen, took out a bottle of water and tossed it at the girl. She drank the water willingly with her tied hands. She put the bottle down after finishing it completely and looked at him expectantly. Matt smiled, put the authorization papers down and decided that he can be late for a bit. With that, he began to take off his pants and…
Alex had decided she was going to order room service. She was looking through the menu when she saw that Rune woke up in his own accord and sat on the bed. She cleared her throat and asked him: “Hey…sleepy head…do you want some food? I was thinking of ordering since Matt…he still isn’t back. Who knows how long it would be you know?”
Nothing. Rune didn’t even look at her. She wondered what she could say to get him to talk to her. In fact, she hasn’t been able to talk to Rune at all since she met him. He was just so quiet and wouldn’t talk to anyone, well, except for Matt. And even with him, Rune speaks into his ear only.
Matt had explained that he’s just too scared. After the trauma that he went through with his mom, it was like he couldn’t trust anybody enough to talk to them. Alex worried about him. Sure, he went through this horrible thing, but he needed to get over it. Or not get over it, but work on himself to try to come back to life. Because that’s what it felt like. It felt like he refused to be part of the world and was only hiding. Alex knew he was just a little boy but for some reason, she couldn’t help having high expectations of him.
Thus, when Rune didn’t answer her after she called on him again, she decided to push a little more, even though Matt had argued against it. Well, Matt wasn’t even here now was he?
She got up to sit beside Rune and put her arm around his back. He flinched but didn’t try to get away from her hug—that was a good sign for Alex.
“Listen…I know you’ve been through a lot. But uncle Matt…he is going to help you find your mother. And…until he does, we’re going to be together…me…you…and Matt. So, don’t you think it’s better that we get to know each other a bit? It’s not like we can just live together day to day and never talk can we?” Alex waited for a response, but there still wasn’t any. Resigned, she was about to take her hand off and go to order some food for herself, when, Rune finally spoke up.
“I’m Ruine.”
“Huh?” Alex responded.
Rune turned to look at Alex. “My name…it’s Ru-iine.” And smiled.
Alex smiled back brightly. “Ruine. Neat. Sorry we’ve been pronouncing your name wrong all this time.” Ruine smiled and blinked his eyes. “So…Ruine…you want to get something to eat with me? Maybe some junk food?”
Ruine looked confused. “Excuse…junk food? I don’t know what junk food.”
Alex blushed. How do you describe junk food to someone who doesn’t speak English that well. “Junk food is…like fried potatoes, greasy, oily fried potatoes or…chips? You have chips? Uh…” Alex reached into her purse and fished out her cell phone. It was still off from the time she had turned it off in the plane before taking off. She quickly turned it on to check for a picture online. As soon as her phone turned on, she saw the many voice messages and the text messages. It looked like they were all from her family so she ignored them before going into the web to find pictures. She showed the pictures of fries to Ruine along with other images.
As soon as Ruine saw the images of “junk food”, his eyes lit up and his mouth slightly watered. “Yes…I like…food junk…my village…they had food junk also.” Ruine said as he excitedly took the phone to look at the images from up close.
Alex smiled and felt so good that the ice had melted between them finally and he felt comfortable with her. So she took out the menu and started ordering “junk food” with Ruine’s help.
Alex and Ruine were working on their desserts by the time Matt arrived. He was surprised to see the two chatting and laughing, but he decided not to give it too much thought.
“Hey you two! I see you’ve already gone through your breakfasts!” Matt exclaimed when he closed the suite door.
“Breakfast?” Alex asked.
“Yes…breakfast! You know it’s 11 am here don’t you?” Matt asked as he took off his belt and got ready to hop in the shower.
Alex and Ruine looked at each other, alarmed, and burst into laughter when they saw the other’s face—painted with chocolate cake residue.
Matt looked from Ruine to Alex. He decided he did not like their bonding after all. He shrugged. Maybe he should’ve gone into his Mandala before entering. He took a deep breath and decided to let the whole matter go.
“Ok I’m going to jump into the shower. Alex? You want to come with me?” Matt asked, smiling.
Alex blushed as she looked at Matt, alarmed. “Sweetie…we have a kid here,” as she pointed towards Ruine with her eyes.
“What…Rune? He can be alone for a little bit.” Ruine fell silent at this point and looked down.
Seeing this, Alex quickly got up and pushed Matt through to the very huge suite bathroom. Matt smiled and said: “hey hey hey! Ok ok I will have sex with you, calm down.”
Alex looked, still more horrified at Matt. “Are you crazy? We can’t just do it and you just can’t flaunt our sex life to Ruine. He’s just a little boy and you already know how traumatized he is!”
“Ruine?!”
“That’s his actual name. He told me so.”
Matt shook his head. “Okay…whatever. Rune or Ruine. I told you I care about him and I will help him, but if that would mean that I can’t be with you and I have to constantly watch what I’m saying in front of him…maybe I don’t want to help him so much anymore.”
Alex looked stunned by this but then softened her look. She put her arms around Matt’s neck and leaned in to kiss him on the lips. When she pulled back, she still lingered close to his face and whispered: “Matt…I have left everything, my whole life in LA, to be with you, here. Of course we’re going to be together here and have lots…and lots of sex {she lowered her voice further to say this word} but I also came here to help you help this little boy. I mean, if not for him, we wouldn’t even be in Dubai right?” Alex looked at Matt as he said this, expectantly.
“Uh…yes of course.” Matt disengaged from Alex’s embrace and turned to get into the shower stall.
“Matt…we’re okay right?” Alex asked Matt as he closed the shower curtains.
Matt closed his eyes from behind the curtains and rested his head on the shower wall and right before turning on the water, replied: “Sure.”
When the sound of the water came, Alex, resigned, left the bathroom to attend to Ruine. She explained to him that Matt was just in a bad mood and they finished their chocolate cakes together. Ruine was still pretty tired and jetlagged so Alex helped him get into bed and as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was fast asleep.
Alex smiled at this sight and brought a blanket to cover Ruine up as he slept. After she tucked him in that way, she went to tend to her luggages a bit. She pondered Matt’s reaction and wondered why he had lost his temper so fast. It was so unlike him. Whatever Matt was, he never lost his temper like that. I mean, he didn’t raise his voice or anything like that, but it was like he just either wanted his way or lost full interest in even talking to her. She worried a bit. Is this how he is here? What if she made a mistake? What if this really was his true face and he had just been behaving this whole time while they were in LA. Lost in her thoughts, Alex didn’t even realize when Matt appeared behind her.
He kissed her on the neck gently, which, as usual always brought goose bumps for Alex. But she was still upset by the way he had acted minutes before. She turned around to face him.
Matt was already back in his Mandala by that point and wore the same kind eyes from before at that point.
“Alex…I am so sorry for the way I acted. I don’t know what got into me. The truth is, I know it’s so juvenile but I just got so jealous when I saw the two of you bonding like that.” Alex was about to say something when Matt cut her off. “I know…it’s stupid and silly really but I’m just so insanely in love with you that it makes it so hard for me to have to see you with anyone else. And I am fully aware how insane that sounds but as I mentioned, I’m just so crazy about you that I can’t think straight.”
These words definitely melted Alex’s heart and Matt could tell that she was just eating it up. “And honestly, I am so glad that you and Ruine are bonding. I mean, that’s exactly what I hoped it would happen. You’re just so much better with kids and to be able to help find Ruine’s mother, I need his help too but he was just so uncooperative with me. But you’ve already gotten him to smile and talk and…eat chocolate cake! That’s definitely progress! Anyway…can you forgive me?”
In response, Alex embraced Matt again and held on tight. Matt took her in his arms, picked her up, and went into the bedroom, and closed the door behind him.
