My Model Growing Up

When all the girls my age were into princesses like Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty, I was always really into Ariel, the mermaid who was the one who "saved the day" or Mulan, who dressed up as a man and entered the war in order to save her father and ended up fighting one-on-one with the biggest enemy of China (and winning!). When I grew out the cartoon age, I became obsessed with Buffy the Vampire Slayer! The girl who was constantly saving the world...because she was the one who had to fight the demons, the vampires, because she was...the slayer!

I think this says a lot about my personality...I'm the type of girl who never needed saving well I did at some point, but I quickly outgrew it. More importantly, I was always fascinated with these kinds of shows where the woman was the one who took charge and crushed every stereotype that there was about "women" being the "weak" ones. Thus, I avidly watched Buffy Summers season after season, seeing myself as her, oh and let's not forget my other obsession as a child...Sailor Moon! The group of women who worked to save the day with no need from men. Heck, even most of the "evil guys" were women! This is probably why my most favorite "evil" antagonist in Buffy was season 5's "Gloria"! She was just this fabulous God who was searching for "the key" to open the portal to darkness. And heck...she was the one who was able to really kill Buffy...sort of.

The reason why I'm reminiscing about my childhood heroes while growing up is because I have recently found out the "Instagram profile" of my biggest model of all time...Sarah Michelle Gellar who yes, played Buffy, but I always just loved her as an actress in and out of Buffy...she was always the one who really made you believe what she was thinking or feeling. And sure enough, just by seeing the few posts (since I'm not on Instagram that often), I've come to realize that I was right on with considering her as my model because wow...she is incredibly real.

I look at her pictures and I feel like wow if I ever do spend a day with her...I'll just have so much fun because this woman is amazing. She is so funny. She is obsessed with food (like me) and she makes fun of herself in a very real and not at all attention-seeking way. I recently purchased the "Back to the Kitchen" cookbook that her husband, another favorite actor of mine, Freddie Prinze Jr. wrote and I'm just so excited to start cooking meals from it because I love cooking! Any case, I'm not saying I want to be best friends with her now because we don't necessarily connect on every level! I just mean that I truly appreciate her. From what I've witnessed, she just seems like such a wonderful human being and I believe that she has truly given me something and to many other people...and that is hope. And above all that, she is so modest and grateful for her fans that it just awes me.

This post is dedicated to her...thank you #smg
