When you hear the word "fun", you may not immediately think, "fatigue" or "exhaustion". However, I feel like the older I get, the more my threshold for having fun decreases! So when weekends come around, I'm very careful about how I schedule my two days in order to balance the "fun" aspect along with the "relaxation" aspect. In fact, to some, going out and exploring the city or shopping for that matter is fun and relaxation at the same time. However, for me, that's fun for Saturday and I just need Sunday to relax and to sleep the fatigue of Saturday away!
Sometimes, Hamed and I get so carried away with the "relaxation" component of the weekend that we forget to have any kind of "fun" all together! We might even mix "relaxation" with a little bit more work-related business, which makes the not having fun part that much worse! The interesting thing is, we only realize we're doing this after a few weekends pass us by! There could be a lot of reasons why both Hamed and I are so sleep deprived all the time--we have a long commute. As for Hamed, he goes to the Santa Monica everyday, leaves early in the morning around 6am and gets back around 7-7:30p. And it wouldn't all be so bad if the commute part itself--the drive--wasn't 1.5h to 2h each way! I share this commute with him twice a week--Tues & Thurs. You can imagine why my life just sucks so much more when I have to go to the city with him an extra day!
In any case, I think I've gotten a pretty good handle on this weekend thing. The key is to plan ahead as all things are! Usually, Friday evening is the best time to really sit down and plan the days of the weekend like where we would go, what time, what chores need to be done for the weekend and how we can balance the "must-do's" with the "fun-do's" and the "sleep/relaxation/lounge around the apartment-do's"!
This was my schedule this past weekend:
Saturday:
Running in the am
Brunch with Hamed
Check out furniture store for sofa-shopping {which we finally picked out after two weeks of searching}
LA sightseeing around the valley: the great wall of LA, iliad bookshop, eclectic vintage store, woodley park etc.
Grocery shopping
Get back home, make dinner, eat, and lounge!
Sunday:
Running in the am
Get together brunch with Meetup group/Ladies Who Inspire
Short errand with Hamed
Talk with parents on the phone to catch up
Come home, finish up work putting bed together & clean up the apartment
Get ready for the week ahead
