#WhyIWrite

The National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) has established October 20th as the "National Day on Writing". According to the website, "Every October 20, NCTE celebrates the importance, joy, and evolution of writing through a tweetup, using the hashtag #WhyIWrite and events hosted by thousands of educators across the country." As an English major, writer, and Writing Teacher, it's a shame that I have never heard of this day! Since about six months ago, I joined the NCTE as a way to stay connected with people who do what I do, network, and be informed about the industry. This is how I found out about this day!

Although it's just my first year, I would like to really get involved and participate on this day. I will definitely use the #WhyIWrite on tweeter & instagram to connect with other writers. However, I would like to also spread the word and involve my community. I have been working as a freelance Writer and Editor since January of this year and would like to definitely expand. Thankfully, I have increased my clientele and have been getting involved in many different projects since I started. Perhaps, I can hold a workshop that day. In fact, it's been one of my business plans to hold a free workshop where I can share my knowledge with everyone, and especially because I haven't taught for a while; I really do love teaching. I have some time from now until the 20th...two weeks to be exact. I would have to complete my "lesson plan" this weekend and begin marketing and advertising for it as much as possible. Perhaps I can hold it at where I take classes or even the Santa Monica public library.

What better way to celebrate National Writing Day by holding a free workshop? It can be about academic writing or free writing. Regardless, I look forward to sharing my plans here with you.
